PROGRAM MANAGER - 1847 RM

(RANGELAND MANAGEMENT)

OPENING: FEBRUARY 22, 2013

CLOSING: MARCH 22, 2013, 5:00 P.M.

Grade: 56 Minimum Annual Starting Salary: $51,975



This position is exempt from payment of overtime under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

This position is responsible for developing and implementing range management programs on 14 working

ranches owned by the County and overseeing the operation of the A7 Ranch. The position conducts range use

surveys, develops annual use numbers for State and BLM grazing leases, works with operators to develop

grazing plans and coordinates conservation efforts with other land management and conservation agencies.

The job requires extensive county travel and work on the ground in all weather conditions and remote settings.



Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a

program-related field and four years of experience in program management. (Additional relevant education

from an accredited college or university may substitute for two years of the aforementioned experience)



OR Eight years of experience in rangeland or natural resource management, public administration,

communications, management, or a field applicable to the program’s operation.



OR One year of experience with Pima County as a Program Coordinator.



Preferred Qualifications: Experience in the following:



1. Developing and coordinating range management and rangeland monitoring programs.

2. Working with local, State and federal agencies, conservation and industry organizations and private

ranch operators in developing and implementing land management plans and best management

practices.

3. Supervising staff and/or volunteers.

4. Project planning and coordination to maintain and enhance working ranches and native habitats.

5. Conducting field surveys, rangeland monitoring and working in remote locations in harsh conditions.



Desired Qualifications:



 Ability to work with natural resource agency representatives, livestock operators and industry

experts to formulate and implement sound range management programs on county ranches.

 Ability to manage multiple tasks and utilize computer systems to develop, maintain, retrieve and

synthesize field data, financial information, work orders, reports and other digital records.

 Knowledge of rangeland grasses, southern Arizona ecological sites, pasture/irrigation watering

systems, grazing rotation systems and vegetative monitoring techniques.

 Ability to supervise range program staff and ability to supervise volunteers supporting the

rangeland program activities.

 Ability to operate 4x4 vehicles, quads and ATVs , tractors, light duty construction equipment,

small farm implements and other typical motorized equipment on working ranches.

 Ability to work with other NRPR staff and others with minimal direction in a changing work

environment and adverse outdoor weather conditions.

This position is in the Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation Department.
