FIELD RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY
Join researchers from Sonoma State University and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte to conduct field work in Sonoma County, California on sudden oak death.
Sudden Oak Death (SOD), caused by the invasive pathogen Phytophthora ramorum, has been devastating coastal California and Oregon forests since its discovery in the mid-1990s. Field work contributes to long-term SOD data inventories to improve understanding of disease spread and management techniques. Work will involve visiting long-term field plots in Sonoma County, California to collect data on host infection, vegetation, and microclimate conditions.
Dates: May - June 2012 (somewhat flexible)
Pay: salary based on experience
Desired Skills:
1. Education: Undergraduate degree in ecology, geography, or related field. Plant identification skills a plus!
2. Field: Prior field and/or other research experience, ability to navigate using GPS, compasses, and topographic maps.
3. General: Good organization and communication skills, attention to detail, in good physical shape, ability to work outdoors for long periods of time in all weather conditions, an upbeat attitude, personal vehicle.
