Attached is an advertisement for a Vegetation Scientist position in the Inyo County Water Department.  The successful candidate will work with other County staff, including hydrologists, soil scientists, planners, and field technicians to implement Inyo County water policies.  Many of the County's policies and initiatives are concerned with the City of Los Angeles's water export activities in Owens Valley.  The Water Department Vegetation Scientist is responsible for monitoring vegetation conditions on Los Angeles's land in Owens Valley; analyzing such data to evaluate the effects of Los Angeles's water management on vegetation, working with other Water Department staff to evaluate the linkage between vegetation condition, soil water, and water table fluctuations; developing mitigation plans; and assessing the efficacy of mitigation measures.  A strong background in quantitative ecology and statistical methods is desirable.  The vegetation scientist will assist Inyo County and Los Angeles implement and monitor mitigation measures including arid land, riparian,  and wetland restoration projects.  Besides the technical aspects of this position, the Vegetation Scientist will work with County officials, County legal counsel, other agency representatives, and the public to implement County water policies and convey timely and pertinent information to the public.

The position is currently based in Independence, CA.
