Subject: Ecomail--> Field assistant sought for summer field work in CA forests

Hi EcoMail- Please pass this ad along to any promising undergrads or recent graduates. We are looking for one more person to join a field crew surveying coastal forests for sudden oak death.

Thanks for your help,
Margaret

---------------------------

The Rizzo Lab at the University of California, Davis, is seeking field assistants for field surveys of the impacts of Phytophthora ramorum, the causal agent of sudden oak death. The field work will take place approximately May 15 to October 1, 2012. Some flexibility on end dates between July 15 and October 1 is possible depending on the candidate's availability. The work will require travel throughout central and northern California coastal forests. The assistant will work with a team of researchers to measure trees, survey disease symptoms, and collect general forest structure data. The ideal candidates will have an undergraduate degree in ecology, botany, or related fields with prior field experience in California forests. Candidates should be organized, able to work well and communicate clearly in a team environment, and enthusiastic about working outdoors (including long work days with moderate to strenuous hiking, and potential contact with poison oak). Salary based on experience. For more information or to discuss your interests, please contact Margaret Metz (mrmetz at ucdavis.edu<mailto:mrmetz at ucdavis.edu>). Interested applicants should send a short cover letter that includes contact information for three references and a resume.
