Subject: Nature Conservancy Job Posting

Upper San Pedro Program Director
The Nature Conservancy in Arizona
Sierra Vista, AZ

An incredible opportunity to join a leading conservation organization working
along one of the last major free-flowing river systems in the Southwest – the
bi-national San Pedro. The Upper San Pedro (USP) Program has been recognized
locally, nationally and internationally for its collaborative regional water
management efforts. The area contains the San Pedro Riparian National
Conservation Area, managed by the US Bureau of Land Management, and has a
history of more extensive hydrologic monitoring and research programs than most
basins in the US, along with highly successful collaboration as it relates to
on-ground conservation solutions. The USP Program Director provides strategic
leadership to support the creation and implementation of plans, programs and
projects to sustain and enhance the San Pedro’s groundwater aquifer and
streamflows. Reporting to the Arizona Director of Conservation Programs, the
Director will supervise the USP Program Coordinator and coordinate the chapter’s
internal cross-functional San Pedro River team representing all aspects of
science, protection and stewardship for the entire watershed.

The ideal candidate will have at least 7-10 years of experience in water
management issues and a working knowledge of hydrologic and riparian ecosystem
processes, plus proven success building effective relationships with diverse
stakeholders; leading cross-functional teams and influencing interdisciplinary
groups; using science to develop and implement conservation policy, projects and
plans; and serving as a principal contact for the organization bridging the
varied urban and rural cultures and interests. Bachelor’s degree required in a
related area, master’s preferred. Compensation is competitive and includes
excellent benefits plus relocation assistance to the Sierra Vista vicinity.
