Hello everyone,
I was on a ZOOM call last night, the first RISG Chair's meeting for 2023.
Below is a call for 2-3 Case studies from Australia for Global Land Outlook
being prepared by the UNCCD.
All IYRP groups are being encouraged to Case studies to be submitted - and
there is not much time. I am checking the Due Date!

Dear RISG chairs
The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is
preparing a Global Land Outlook (GLO) Thematic Report that will comprehensively
analyse the dynamics linking pastoralists and the land they use, focusing
on rangelands. And they have asked for our help.
This GLO report will show evidence on how sustainable rangeland management
and rehabilitation contribute to achieving land degradation neutrality,
improved livelihoods, and ecosystem restoration worldwide and thereby
contribute to multiple Sustainable Development Goals in the different
regions of the world.
The recommendations included in the report will be built upon a collection
of experiences from all around the world, linking pastoralists with issues
of rangeland management and governance.
We as the IYRP GCG had a meeting with Pedro Herrera (pherrera at unccd.int), the
coordinator of this report, and agreed that the GLO Rangelands report
should be aligned with the IYRP approach and fully acknowledge the IYRP.
Also that the *Regional IYRP Support Groups (RISGs) could help mobilise 1
or 2 regional, national or** local experiences from each region *that could
illustrate our main lines of argument and action regarding land management
and governance. The report will collect experiences from all regions of the
world and *we **want to ensure that as many appropriate cases as possible
with a wide geographic coverage hopefully from ALL 11 IYRP regions are
available, from which cases for the report would be selected. We know that
each region provides a unique context and set of experiences that this
report and the subsequent use of this information could benefit from. It is
also a way of us acknowledging the good work from those in our regions and
we through this report, elevate those messages to a global audience. *
Pedro is prepared to have direct contact with any RISG co-chairs who could
help to gather those contributions by disseminating the call and/or pointing
to key experiences and people behind them and/or actually contributing
information
on cutting-edge experiences in your region. You may receive an email from
him or you can contact him at his email address given above. He will
directly follow up on any case you provide.
I’m sharing with you two documents: 1) the UNCCD call for contributions and
2) the template to provide a summary of a relevant experience.
We would like to encourage you to communicate with Pedro, collaborate with him
in preparing this report and help mobilise some good cases, as we think
that the results of this report could provide tremendous support for the
IYRP initiative.
Kind Regards,
Igshaan Samuels
IYRP co-chair

Dear Igshaan,
Could someone please clarify the date when these Case Studies need to be
provided please. I have looked but cannot see it, and I remember that the
time frame was quite short.
Best regards
Dana
