Dear colleagues,
I am pleased to share that the Global call for stories: Family farmers at the heart of climate-resilient and sustainable agrifood systems<https://url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/c4LXC4WnljT7Yyq15FOf2h4SaC-?domain=fao.org/> is open.
Following the successful Family Farming is advocacy campaign launched last year in the lead-up to the Global Family Farming Forum<https://url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/FH9WC5AomkfWgo2G9uOhQhkkWKE?domain=fao.org> and the World Food Forum<https://url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/dd7XC6YpnlfGVEqKmTmiph5h39f?domain=world-food-forum.org>, we would like to invite you to help us gather evidence on the vital role of family farmers addressing the interconnected challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss and environmental degradation.
This initiative of FAO, under the framework of the United Nations Decade of Family Farming (UNDFF)<https://url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/lXEKC7DqomiWEvwkNuNskho9Eun?domain=fao.org/>, promoted by the FAO Family Farming Knowledge Platform (FFKP)<https://url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/GVx7C8XrpnfwOlERqcotOhyg1IT?domain=fao.org>, has been conceived to provide a space to highlight the human, cultural and social dimensions of family farming, assembling a collection of stories and experiences that effectively illustrate how family farmers are promoting models/systems which conserve and restore biodiversity, sustainably manage natural resources, and adapt to climate change, leading the transformation towards climate-resilient and sustainable agrifood systems.
We are happy to implement this initiative together with Access Agriculture<https://url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/0J9EC93vqouYRvDBqc1uvhqptdL?domain=accessagriculture.org/>, Agricultural Extension in South Asia (AESA)<https://url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/57QYC0Aj5NfrJKp3BSLCWh98-gf?domain=aesanetwork.org/>, Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA)<https://url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/gfHOCg7WAOIYPrD2ycKFKh4szun?domain=afsafrica.org/>, Asian Farmers´ Association for Sustainable Rural Development (AFA)<https://url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/xpYHCjAWEjfyl2VqmFMHLhm5riX?domain=asianfarmers.org/>, CIRAD<https://url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/cEiUCk6WGkCqY7PQBcDI3hGeogH?domain=cirad.fr/>, EncontrAR<https://url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/WVP6Cl8WJltzOyjZEuLSDhzZd1Y?domain=encontrarandes.org/>, Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), <https://url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/sIu8Cm7WKmIR1Z9nltVTQhRahbe?domain=clacso.org/> Platform of Latin America and the Caribbean for Climate Action on Agriculture (PLACA)<https://url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/E4lTCnGWL0c6lzkoDT4UohJgxyo?domain=accionclimaticaplaca.org/>, Schola Campesina<https://url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/eAtQCoAWMofKlMQzYsJcrhp66jj?domain=scholacampesina.org/>, World Rural Forum (WRF)<https://url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/XXhWCp9WNpfxQG78oTqfmhGkI9c?domain=ruralforum.org/>, the FAO Climate Change Knowledge Hub,<https://url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/haPYCqAWOqf7LDV5NF7hLhE11Cr?domain=fao.org/> FAO Global Farmer Field School Platform<https://url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/FE2gCrgWPrTDwpWvZSYikh4zXZp?domain=fao.org/>, and FAO Right to Food<https://url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/Z15cCvm6WyFyOGR68F0sEhQazV9?domain=fao.org/>, Platform of Latin America and the Caribbean for Climate Action on Agriculture (PLACA)<https://url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/E4lTCnGWL0c6lzkoDT4UohJgxyo?domain=accionclimaticaplaca.org/>, Schola Campesina<https://url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/eAtQCoAWMofKlMQzYsJcrhp66jj?domain=scholacampesina.org/>, World Rural Forum (WRF)<https://url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/XXhWCp9WNpfxQG78oTqfmhGkI9c?domain=ruralforum.org/>, the FAO Climate Change Knowledge Hub,<https://url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/haPYCqAWOqf7LDV5NF7hLhE11Cr?domain=fao.org/> FAO Global Farmer Field School Platform<https://url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/FE2gCrgWPrTDwpWvZSYikh4zXZp?domain=fao.org/>, FAO Right to Food<https://url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/Z15cCvm6WyFyOGR68F0sEhQazV9?domain=fao.org/> and a selection of colleagues at FAO and IFAD.
The purpose of this call is to give visibility to the stories and firsthand experiences of family farmers around the world who are producing food sustainably and setting an example with their dedication to feeding their communities while protecting local ecosystems. This call builds on the success of the Innovation by and for Family Farmers video call<https://url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/a0FxCwn6XzHR0721xtgtRhJ1btL?domain=fao.org/> held last year. Through these stories, we can listen directly to family farmers, peasants, Indigenous Peoples, traditional communities, fishers, mountain farmers, and pastoralists, in their own words as they navigate a changing climate. These stories will add to ongoing efforts to emphasize the centrality of family farming in ecological transitions solutions, reaffirming that family farmers are at the heart of climate-resilient and sustainable food systems. By adding volume to the voices of family farmers and showcasing their stories, this call seeks to support the 2030 Agenda and the FAO Strategic Framework for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind.
In this call, stories told through audio, photo reportage, video, and writing are accepted from now until the closure of the call on July 14.
