Balancing economic development and natural resource conservation is important for localities, the Commonwealth of Virginia, landowners, and other interested parties. Recognizing the importance of this issue the Virginia General Assembly adopted HB894, Section 3 of which charged Virginia Cooperative Extension with leading an effort to develop a map or repository of prime farmland in consultation with relevant and necessary state agencies and other partners.
