Hi all,
Some of you might be interested in this press release from Sustainable Northwest on a recently announced USDA funded Climate Smart Ranching program.
According to the press release (see link below for more info and contacts):
“While demonstrating a suite of scientifically sound and replicable climate-smart practices, this program will result in the following:
* Climate-smart grazing practices on 120 operations across 9 states and over seven million acres of public and private rangelands. ● Reduce the carbon intensity of beef production by 50-100% compared to conventionally-raised beef. ● Annual carbon sequestration equivalent to emissions from consumption of one billion gallons of gasoline or 10 billion pounds of coal. ● Provide $67 million in annual increased market returns for producers.”

We are thrilled to announce that the USDA Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities Program awarded a combined $35 million to Sustainable Northwest<https://sustainablenorthwest.us6.list-manage.com/track/click?u=47e1ca305994bb19337e6e152&id=717b5c4171&e=0a6e169862> for two groundbreaking climate-focused projects.
We received $10 million to implement the largest climate-smart beef program in the West and a second $25 million grant to restore tens of thousands of forested acres in Oregon and Washington to accelerate the climate-smart wood building industry. This is a landmark investment in the future of the environment, communities, and economy of the Pacific Northwest.
We are grateful to our staff, partners, Congressional leadership, and USDA for their unwavering commitment to our region’s working forests, farms, and ranches; and their critical role as an economic engine and national force to combat climate change.

$10M TO BUILD THE WEST’S LARGEST CLIMATE-SMART RANCHING PROGRAM
Sustainable Northwest is working with partners across the country to support the nation’s largest climate-smart beef production program – from grazing to finishing across 9 western states and seven million acres. This program is one of the first in the nation to holistically develop, implement and measure how beef producers can sequester and reduce greenhouse gasses. The program will also improve water efficiency and quality, and promote wildlife habitat.
