Greetings Mark,
Thank you for including me on the invitation.
I’d be happy to participate in the proposed project although I currently do not serve in a Range program and sadly this focal area has been substantially de-emphasized at Texas A&M University. I have just responded to the Doodle Poll.
Best wishes,
Urs

HI John,
Good to hear from you and thank you for sharing the information on your discussions within the Australian Rangeland Society and recommendation for Objective 2. This is an excellent recommendation and I will incorporate it. I would be very happy to have you involved in this collaboration. I have sent out a doodle poll to find time to bring everyone to the table and begin discussing the proposal ( https://doodle.com/poll/sge58tc5giea7hti) and I am exploring options for sharing documents online.
Kind Regards,
Mark

Subject: RE: [RangelandsPartnership] Rangelands Partnership Collaboration Opportunity
Hi Mark (and all),
Yes, this is an important issue. The need for accessible educational opportunities for career development and advancement was also highlighted in a range of activities at the Sept 2019 biennial conference of the Australian Rangeland Society. A paper on ‘Building human capacity, capability and future leaders for Australia’s rangelands’ was recently submitted for a special conference issue of The Rangeland Journal. This ms addresses the knowledge and skills needs expressed by early and mid-career professionals, and experienced operatives views of what it takes to be an effective rangeland operative in OZ (i.e. advisor, researcher or rancher). It was based on hard and soft literature and a diversity of personal experiences. This process has given us some very clear signals about the nature and priorities for development of training modules and other skill development initiatives.
Your Objective 2 is the critical step to guide this initiative. I suggest that there are two parts to this : i) a survey of knowledge and skills needs as perceived by early and mid-career professionals, and ii) a survey of knowledge and skills gaps among most early and mid-career professionals as perceived by experienced professionals.
So, I’d be happy to contribute if you think I could add value, and that this would be appropriate. I have enjoyed collaborating in a couple of RSEC education initiatives, and am currently contributing to the SRM Boards’ Accreditation Task Force.
Stay safe, and make the most of your restrained July 4th celebrations.
Kind regards,
John A Taylor

Aloha Rangelands Partnership,
I hope everyone is safe, healthy, and spending time in the field or Library as the case may be.
Karen Launchbaugh, Barb Hutchinson, Amber Dalke, Aaron Lien, and myself are starting work on a proposal to the USDA focused on development of a workforce training curricula for early and mid-career range management professionals. We feel that the output of this project will help advance the profession of range management by providing support for the two Society for Range Management certification programs through test preparation curricula and continuing education opportunities and training opportunities for state and federal land management personnel, while also providing a mechanism to enhance the sustainability of the Rangelands Partnership. Attached to this email is a brief prospectus of the project we envision. We would like to invite anyone with time and an interest in the project to join us in collaboration. Please review the attachment and let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to hearing from you on your decision.
Kind Regards,
Mark
