Dialogue on Making Rangelands More Secure

The Rangelands Initiative of the International Land Coalition and the Land Portal Foundation are facilitating an online dialogue<https://landportal.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0a75cf9a3172ad47e391e495c&id=393ce97d2e&e=de7e2b9c96> from January 29 to February 9 on experiences of making rangelands more secure. This will focus on the challenges faced by rangelands and rangeland users, good practice, and ways forward.  The dialogue will bring together the perspectives of governments, international agencies, communities, academics, donors, NGOs and CSOs, private sector and others.

A dialogue on making rangelands more secure

It is anticipated that the dialogue will improve understanding of rangelands and rangeland users together with current dynamics, trends and challenges; as well as sharing and strengthening ways for making rangelands more secure through good practices and new opportunities. The dialogue also seeks to strengthen the ILC Rangelands Initiative as a multi-stakeholder platform, and provide clear strategic direction for further engaging on rangelands globally and nationally.

Main points and conclusions from the discussions will be shared.

Dialogue questions

Prospective participants are encouraged to reflect, and prepare their contribution, on the following issues:

  1.  Land-related challenges that rangelands and their users face, with insights on the global, regional and/or local trends. The analysis should include a reflection on their causes and impacts, as well as in how far marginalised concerned groups can influence decisions over such changes.
  2.  Good practice examples on making rangelands more secure for local rangelands users and that can help achieving change (policy and legislation and practice). This analysis should also include a reflection on causes for success, including the involvement of marginalized groups or the use of technology, or conflict resolution strategies.
  3.  Pathways for strengthening multi-stakeholder platforms such as the ILC Rangelands Initiative, including tools for better connection, key opportunities for collective action to secure rangelands, or analysing new opportunities such as the campaign for an International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists.
