[RangelandsPartnership] Working Professional Input on Teaching Field-based Science Online

Dear Working Professional,

Oregon State University (Yvette Gibson, PI) is embarking on a multi-initiative research project to examine the methods of teaching field-based disciplines online.  Your participation in this survey will help OSU on our path to shaping student learning experiences and identify best practices in teaching field-based courses online, so that graduates from online courses may not only have knowledge base, but also a solid foundational skill-set to hit the ground running post-graduation.

The first initiative of this research project is a survey to gauge perceptions about online post-secondary education in the natural science and agricultural disciplines.  Included in this first initiative is an effort to identify how professionals within natural science and agricultural science disciplines define “field-based science”; how teaching faculty approach teaching field-based courses; and ascertain a general sense of the fundamental knowledge and performance of recent graduate new hires.   This study has been approved by Oregon State University’s IRB.
