Subject: [rrealeaders] FY 2015 RREA National Focus Funds awards announced

RREA State Contact and Extension Forestry Educators,

The FY 2015 RREA National Focus Funds Competitive Program process has been completed, and we are writing to announce the outcome of the peer review panel. The panel, comprised of Extension educators from the forest and rangeland resources disciplines met in late August to review and make funding recommendations to NIFA.

The purposes of the grant program for FY 2015 was to provide funds for projects that:

  1. Address emerging forest and rangeland resource issues, have national or regional relevancy, or develop new and innovative projects that can be replicated at other institutions; and
  2. Plan and conduct national forum(s)/symposium(s) to address the current and future needs and issues of existing and yet-to-be-identified clientele and how extension forestry and rangeland resources programs can adapt to increasing demands and forces for change to more effectively plan, deliver, and evaluate the impacts on people and natural resources.

Four projects were recommended for funding. Awards were made to these four projects:

  * CLEMSON UNIVERSITY – Wood Utilization: Pathway to Healthy Forests and Sustainable Communities - $59,740. Project Director: Susan Guynn; sguynn at clemson.edu<mailto:sguynn at clemson.edu>
  * OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY - The Future of Forestry and Rangeland Extension Conference - $90,000. Project Director: Brianna Beene; brianna.beene at oregonstate.edu<mailto:brianna.beene at oregonstate.edu>
  * PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIVERISTY – Planning the Future of the Forest: Seeing Landowners Like Me - $60,260. Project Director: Barbara Allyson Muth; abm173 at psu.edu<mailto:abm173 at psu.edu>
  * TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY - The Changing Face of Engagement: Reaching the 21st Century Forest and Rangeland Manager - $90,000. Project Director: Amy Hays; ahays at ag.tamu.edu<mailto:ahays at ag.tamu.edu>

For the FY 2015 program, 10 applications were received; 4 were funded with a funding success rate of 40%.

We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to your peers who served on the review panel.

We anticipate that there will be a FY 2016 RREA National Focus Fund Program, but it will depend on the appropriation that is received for RREA.

Contact any of the Project Directors if you have any questions.
