The University of Hawaii Cooperative Extension Service recently developed a
forage production and drought management tool to assist Hawaii Producers in
making proactive grazing and drought management decisions. The tool is
based on quantified relationships between local precipitation patterns and
forage production in major Hawaiian rangeland ecosystems. Producers can
forecast forage production, determine suitable stocking rates, and make
drought management plans. This ability will be important over the next
several decades as drought intensity and frequency will likely increase in
Hawaii due to climate change.  More information and the decision support

Intensive work continues in redesigning the suite of Global Rangelands
websites, while at the same time revamping WRANGLE – an exploration of the
world’s rangelands.  To accommodate this dual development strategy, the
revised target date for relaunching the sites is July 1st.  Watch for

In April, Jodee Kuden (University of Alaska – Anchorage) and Jeanne Pfander
(University of Arizona) represented the Rangelands Partnership at the 18th
Australian Rangeland Society Biennial Conference in Alice Springs,
Northwest Territory, AU. With the help of funding provided by the RP
Executive Council, the two staffed an exhibit table where information was
shared about the Partnership and the RP suite of websites.  A poster
presentation also was given.  The hospitality of the Australians was most
appreciated and both John Taylor (outgoing ARS President) and David Phelps
(incoming ARS President, pictured above with Jodee) made sure the American
guests felt welcomed. This opportunity to meet face to face with ARS
members will facilitate continued collaboration between RP and ARS on
development of web-based information resources and tools.  For more

advantages to "multiple classes of livestock" as far back as I can
remember. But, of course, they didn't relate it to soil health b...
