<p class="MsoNormal"><span class="e2ma-style">This is a request for Summer 2020 "Externships in Sustainability" Project Proposals. This year, the Green Fund was able to support 12 extern positions in 6 counties working on a variety of projects. We’ve been funded
 by the UA Green Fund through August of 2020 and our budget will allow for up to 12 externs working no more than 35 hours/week for a maximum of 10 weeks (350 hours per extern). </span><br>
<br>
<span class="e2ma-style">The overall purpose of the Externship Program is to create opportunities for University of Arizona students to bring their experience, skills and enthusiasm to their communities through innovative sustainability projects, by working
 directly with Extension agents throughout the state. At the same time, those students and Arizona’s communities become more aware of Cooperative Extension’s leadership role in applied research and innovation as it relates to sustainability. </span><br>

<span class="e2ma-style">   2.     Recycling</span><br>

<strong><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">This is your opportunity to submit a sustainability project idea to the Team for your county that would employ a UA student as an extern for the project. The timeframe for extern projects runs from mid-May
 to August 30.</span></strong><br>

<span class="e2ma-style">If you are interested in an extern to implement a county sustainability project starting in the Summer of 2020:</span><br>
<span class="e2ma-style">   1.     Include your capacity to supervise a student as well as provide logistical support such as a</span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span class="e2ma-style">           desk, phone and computer</span><br>
<span class="e2ma-style">   2.     Describe your sustainability project idea.</span><br>
<span class="e2ma-style">   3.     Identify the community or facility in your area that would benefit from such a project.</span><br>
<span class="e2ma-style">   4.     Proposals should include a projected measurable impact of the extern’s activities based on</span><o:p></o:p></p>

<span class="e2ma-style">Interns are given a minimum wage stipend. A small pool of funds is available for project-related materials. Projects given preference for the 2020 cycle will be based on:</span><br>

<span class="e2ma-style">   2.       If applicable, past Externship performance and compliance with reporting/evaluation </span><o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoPlainText">UA’s Undergraduate Biology Research Program (UBRP) provides opportunities for UA students to participate in a paid, mentored, summer research program involving inquiry, design, investigation, research, scholarship, discovery, and the
 presentation of experimental results.  UBRP students select a faculty mentor and work full time (35 hours/week) for a minimum of 12 weeks during the summer, participate in professional development meetings on Wednesday afternoons, and network with other UBRP
 students through educational field trips and activities.  UBRP’s programs include:<b><o:p></o:p></b></p>

<ul style="margin-top:0in" type="disc">
<li class="MsoPlainText" style="mso-list:l3 level1 lfo3">UBRP – For students from any major, class standing, and career goal interested in conducting biologically-related research (broadly defined) in any area.<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoPlainText" style="mso-list:l3 level1 lfo3">ASPET SURF – For students interested in pharmacology research.<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoPlainText" style="mso-list:l3 level1 lfo3">NACP – For Native American students interested in biomedical research and in exploring careers related to reducing cancer health disparities among Native populations.<o:p></o:p></li></ul>

<p class="MsoPlainText">“This college internship program is designed to offer hands-on experience at Naumkeag and Berkshire Botanical Garden for college students aspiring to a career in horticulture, public gardening, and landscape architecture or design. Interns
 will work with horticulture staff and volunteers in all phases of public garden maintenance and development. This includes planting, weeding, watering, mulching, pruning, and interacting with visitors. Students may also become involved in special projects
 such as accession records, garden inventories, confirming collections, plant signage, or photography. An ongoing program of intern training sessions, public education programs, and staff field trips are offered to help broaden the students’ horticultural horizon.
