<p class="MsoNormal">I am seeking help with finding a person skilled in propagation to hire at San Marcos Growers. We would like to hire someone this spring as an assistant propagation manager, have them learn on the job and then assume the full duties of managing
the department by the end of the year. This is because Lynn Kravitz, my business partner and the nursery's propagation and production manager, has announced that she will be retiring at the end of this year. Our hope is to hire by May so that they can work
with and learn from Lynn to take advantage of her 35 years of experience here.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I thought a little background on the nursery and Lynn's career might help. Marcia and Jim Hodges established the nursery in 1979 and Lynn and I were hired shortly thereafter, she as Propagation Manager and I as Production Manager. Lynn
and I became partners in San Marcos Growers with the Hodges family in 1990, at which time we combined the jobs of the General Manager, Production Manager and Propagation Manager into two positions, with shared duties. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Over the years Lynn and my work load has grown and as Lynn retires, we plan to split the Production and Propagation Manager job back into two positions. We feel that we have competent staff to be able to share much of Lynn's Production
Manager job, but we are seeking someone that can fill her position as Propagation Manager. This employee will manage staff to propagate plants, plant and maintain liner stock and oversee the planting of 1 gallon nursery crops. They will also be in charge
of the general maintenance of the 1 gallon plants and coordinate with the Production Manager for the crop's cultural needs and the reserving of liner and 1 gallon plants for crops in larger sizes.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D"> </span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We are looking for someone energetic with training in propagation and with some nursery production experience. We would like to have this person in place by this spring to allow for a long training period prior to taking over the propagation
manager position at year end. We have not determined the pay scale yet but it will be commensurate with experience and phased through the training period. San Marcos Growers offers good medical benefits, vacation, holiday and sick pay, and a 401-K retirement
plan. We think it a pretty good place to work.<o:p></o:p></p>
