Beginning in October, CESL will once again be administering its unique online teacher training course for certification to Teach English as a Foreign Language (TEFL).

The TEFL Certificate Program is the entry-level, international benchmark for qualified English language teacher training. Once again this academic year, CESL is offering 8-week 50-hour Online Basic or Advanced TEFL programs, as well as a 20-hour observational and teaching practicum. The 50-hour courses will run from October 13 through December 6, 2012, and will be taught entirely online via the University of Arizona's Desire to Learn (D2L) course delivery system.

The 50-hour Online Basic TEFL program emphasizes essential foundations in language teaching theory, methodology, curriculum development, and assessment techniques. It is intended to provide comprehensive preparation for novice teachers who intend to teach English for short-terms abroad or in a volunteer capacity in the US.

The 50-hour Online Advanced TEFL program is intended for in-service teachers with two or more years of experience or for teachers who have completed the 50-hour Basic and are interested in more advanced coursework. It is designed to provide advanced coursework in instructional methods of the four skills and classroom management techniques.

The course design is extremely user friendly and largely self paced, and it can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Regular access to a computer and reliable internet connection are the only technical prerequisites to participation.
