Good morning, everyone!
Happy first day of classes! c: I have complete faith in each of you and believe in your ability to succeed this semester, you all are capable of great things! c: At the same time, remember to be kind to yourself, and give yourself the space to remember that 1) success is measured by how you define it, and 2) success does not equal perfection. Give yourself the space to take care of yourself and the confidence to ask for help when you need it as well. Speaking of help... here are some resources and reminders for you now that we are starting the semester! c:
* Contacting Finn!<https://ua-trellis.my.site.com/uastudent/s/catcloud/services/calendar/?NetId=amgalpin>
* Have questions about your schedule? Need to know where to find academic articles on insects? Struggling with studying or with the transition to college? Do you have a question you think is silly? Please reach out to me! c: I'm here to help you find resources and solutions for the problems that plague you. I can assure you that many other new students have the same kinds of questions you do, and none of them are silly.
* You can contact me primarily through my email (amgalpin at arizona.edu<mailto:amgalpin at arizona.edu>), or through my office phone number (520-626-3095). You can find me in Forbes 319, my office is the one with all the Squishmallows and pinned butterflies. c:
* I also take advising appointments! You can sign in through CatCloud<https://ua-trellis.my.site.com/uastudent/s/catcloud/services/calendar/?NetId=amgalpin> to find my appointments and meet with me. c: I generally do 45-30-minute appointments, but I am open to doing longer appointments as requested, just reach out to me and we can make that happen.
* Have just a quick question? You can also check out our CALS CAS Drop-In Hours<https://ua-trellis.my.site.com/uastudent/s/catcloud/services/calendar?GroupId=a0g3n000006vhBY>! During the Fall and Spring semesters, we have in-person and virtual drop-in advising hours where you can meet with a general advisor to get help with all your advising needs.
* Please note! The beginning of the semester is very busy - there will be a delay in responding to emails and phone calls, but I will get back to you as soon as possible.
* UAccess<https://uaccess.arizona.edu/>
* UAccess is our student and staff administration database - think of it like the command center for all official operations. You can do many things here!
* You can find your class schedule by signing in through the student center! Your class schedule will be on the left side of the page once you sign in.
* This is also where you can find things like your scholarships, bursar account information, honors and awards, as well as find the information on who your advisor is if you have more than one. c: Are you looking to update your name, pronouns, address, phone number? This can also be done here as well.
* When we meet again to look for classes for your next semester, this is where we will start to search for the best courses for you. You are also encouraged to find classes on your own here too. c:
* D2L<https://d2l.arizona.edu/d2l/loginh/>
* D2L is our central hub for learning! This is where you will find your course information.
* Instructors post their syllabi, assignments, readings, grades, and important messages for your classes on D2L.
* If you have any questions about using D2L, please feel free to reach out, and I'll be happy to help out. c:
* Disability Resource Center (DRC)<https://drc.arizona.edu/> and CALS Learning Lab<https://cals.arizona.edu/learning-lab>
* Accessibility is super important to me, and to having the most equitable experience possible during your time at the UofA. If you need accommodations or assistance with your learning, reach out to the DRC!
* They provide individual accommodation to students, staff, and faculty to help everyone do their best work. Resources include accessible digital content, ASL Interpreting and Captioning, assistance in Lab Work and associated activities.
* Additionally, you can work with our CALS Learning Lab, powered by the SALT Center, a collaborative learning space free of charge to CALS students. Looking for tutoring? Or do you need help with time management or organization? Meet with our wonderful Learning Coach, Shawnda Garcia to find resources and methods that work best for you through your college experience.
* Clubs/Involvement
* On our website<https://cals.arizona.edu/students/campus-life> you can find a small list of the clubs and leadership involvement that are sponsored by CALS for CALS students! c:
* However, the UofA has over 400 possible clubs and organizations for students to be a part of. You can see that database here<https://www.arizona.edu/student-life/getting-involved>!
* Getting involved is a great way to meet people who have the same interests as you from all different areas, as well as potentially trying something new! c:
* Dates and Deadlines<https://registrar.arizona.edu/dates-and-deadlines>
* Looking for dates and deadlines? Here's UA's official calendar for deadlines like enrolling in classes, dropping classes, the dates you can file for GRO (that starts today!), and all manner of other dates. Have questions? Feel free to ask! c:
I hope that everyone has a wonderful semester, both those starting and returning, and I can't wait to work with you all. c: Please feel free to reach out through email, phone, or appointment if you have any questions or concerns, and we can work together to find a solution. I hope everyone has a great rest of your week, stay dry and safe, and I'll see you all soon! c:
Best,
Finn
