Soil Health Innovations Conference

The National Center for Appropriate Technology, in cooperation with USDA Rural Development, Montana State University, and Western Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (WSARE), is pleased to announce the inaugural Soil Health Innovations Conference. This national conference will be held at Montana State University on March 30 and 31, 2020.

Soil health has emerged as a central theme in conversations about the future of American agriculture. Soils have become a focal topic due to new scientific understanding, the application of emerging technologies, and a growing interest among producers and policymakers in improving climate resilience and mitigating emissions.

We would like to extend an invitation to the students to submit a poster board for presentation at the conference. The presentation area will be located next to the main conference room near the exhibitor booths. There is an online submission form at https://soilinnovations.ncat.org/call-for-student-posters-form/<https://nam01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fsoilinnovations.ncat.org%2Fcall-for-student-posters-form%2F&data=02%7C01%7Crichm%40ncat.org%7Cc92dbf42a70247e7b30108d79eb14b67%7C833912b329304964ab4dec38e988d2c4%7C0%7C0%7C637152356621309556&sdata=b%2F5TBPL1MMTIhSlxpPPDD8eo7qWisZtfNiZSj4AYGPg%3D&reserved=0> . The deadline to submit is January 31, 2020. Please pass the word on to your department's students and staff.

Submissions should include:

  1. Title of presentation
  2. Presentation summary (recommended length 2000 characters)
  3. Expected presentation outcomes
  4. Presenter bio

The Soil Health Innovations Conference will bring together producers, industry professionals, educators, and students who are at the cutting edge of soil health across the country: On-farm practices, soil biology, carbon markets, and public policy. This conference will provide an excellent opportunity for students to develop a poster project for the spring semester.

Tucson Botanical Gardens Club
Hey! Happy New Year, long time no see.
Hope you are doing well.

So I am working with the Tucson Botanical Gardens to start the 2150 Club, essentially a professionals club for horticulturalists in the area.
If people are interested in horticulture, networking, field trips, lunch and a Tucson Botanical Gardens membership, they should come to the first meeting on February 13th.

Would you forward this email to the plant science listserv?
I am hoping to reach both students and faculty.

People can email me at daryan at civanogrowers.com<mailto:daryan at civanogrowers.com> if they have any questions.

Thanks much,

UC3 Workshop
Greetings Students Interested in Climate Resilience and Sustainability!

The Office of Sustainability and the Arizona Institutes for Resilient Environment & Societies (AIRES) are holding a University Climate Change Coalition<https://secondnature.org/initiative/uc3-coalition/> (UC3) workshop for students Wednesday, January 29th from 3:00pm-5:00pm in the Silver & Sage Room of Old Main! Additional information on the University's membership<https://uanews.arizona.edu/story/ua-joins-research-coalition-climate> in UC3 may be found here<https://uanews.arizona.edu/story/university-climate-coalition-announces-policy-platform-combat-climate-change>. We have exciting developments to report regarding the potential for students to work with faculty, staff and community collaborators to promote a more sustainable future; funding is potentially available for student engagement in UC3 projects.

Light refreshments will be provided at the event and we hope to have several University administrators with us.

Due to the space constraints of Silver & Sage, we are requesting that all interested attendees fill out this RSVP Form<https://uarizona.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0CiA5Xt1aOprZmB> no later than Monday, January 27 at 5:00pm. This event will be first come/first served, but we will report out to any of you who are interested regardless of whether you are able to make it to this event.

Several ideas for university/community collaborative partnerships have already been developed through conversations with community members, faculty, and staff. We will share those ideas, but are particularly interested in including student perspectives in our proposed approach. We will combine the earlier ideas with ideas that come from this event to generate a final list of project proposals.

If you have any questions, please contact either Trevor Ledbetter at tledbetter at email.arizona.edu<mailto:tledbetter at email.arizona.edu> or Kathy Jacobs at jacobsk at email.arizona.edu<mailto:jacobsk at email.arizona.edu>.

We look forward to seeing you on January 29th.

Best,

Trevor Ledbetter, Director
Office of Sustainability
