To learn more, please visit our website: www.kaluyala.com/education<https://kaluyala-dot-yamm-track.appspot.com/Redirect?ukey=1Qe9mRRMnSUVge6zoW7XU8U7dDIA5T8yCz4LeAe1xTOM-720050518&key=YAMMID-63223078&link=https%3A%2F%2Fkaluyala.com%2Feducation%2F>

At Kalu Yala, we work as a tropical research institute, allowing undergraduate and graduate students to apply and pursue their career and personal passions through hands-on learning. Our vision is to transform their classroom education into applied field studies during their 10 week stay with us.

Programs take place in Kalu Yala<https://kaluyala-dot-yamm-track.appspot.com/Redirect?ukey=1Qe9mRRMnSUVge6zoW7XU8U7dDIA5T8yCz4LeAe1xTOM-720050518&key=YAMMID-63223078&link=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kaluyala.com>, a rustic eco-village where we’re conducting research and development to build a sustainable, modern town. We also work in the small village of San Miguel, the closest community to Kalu Yala, where we have partnered with the local education and health systems to provide assistance. Since Summer 2010, we've had over 1,000 students from 28 countries, 46 states, and 240 colleges attend.

Programs:

· Tropical Field Biology

· Local Business Entrepreneurship

· Community Development and Education

· Farm-to-Table Culinary Arts

· Public Health and Wellness

· Sustainable Agriculture and Animal Science

· Outdoor Recreation

· Design Thinking

· Digital Media

Interns design and implement their own independent 10-week long study or project. Some choose to do their own projects, while others work in groups to make their dream a reality. Along the way, our instructors help them plan and provide mentorship, while they assist the instructors with institute research.

A few past projects examples are:

· Designing and building an outdoor recreation park with low ropes course, hillside amphitheater, stage, putt-putt golf course, and volleyball court

· Multi-site water testing followed by water purification feasibility study (both for Kalu Yala and the neighboring town of San Miguel which currently does not have potable water). We are continuing our efforts here working with the local municipality and hope by working together we can fix this important issue.

· Designing, planting and taking care of our 10-acre permaculture farm while planting about 2,000 fruit trees per year.

· Teaching English, art classes and after school sports and science clubs in 4 schools in rural Panama.

· Working with the local health facilities to host health seminars and bring in experts to the rural town of San Miguel

· Identification and database creation of native insects and plants, along with multiple ecosystem monitoring projects.

Upcoming semester dates:

· Spring 2020: January 20 to March 28

· Summer 2020: May 25 to July 30

· Fall 2020: September 14 to November 20
