A UA alum who manages homeless shelters in downtown Phoenix may have a facility to help homeless people grown house plants perhaps for sale (social entrepreneurship).  Is this a project that any of your students might be interested in helping her get set up? According to popular magazines, house plants are all the rage in home decorating, so there may be a market for this idea.

Good morning Pam!

It was great to meet you at the Business Journal event last week and I would love to keep our conversations going about social enterprise.  I forgot to mention that St. Vincent de Paul on the Human Services Campus (where CASS is located), also has a beautiful garden in which they are growing food for their kitchens and dining halls.  They are not currently doing social enterprise with clients and that is something I would love to pursue with them and CASS clients.

Please let me know if you would like to tour CASS and the Campus when you are in Phoenix.  Perhaps there would be a group you would want to bring along to help us think about business opportunities and social enterprise models.

I think that horticulture and social enterprise models holds some real promise for the homeless population.
