Name and number of the course: Principles of Plant Physiology lab (PLS 361)
Units: 1 (3 contact hours)
Meeting time: Wednesday between 1:00pm-4:00pm
Lab meeting place: Marley 212
Instructors: Ravi Palanivelu
Content: Students will perform a hypothesis-driven, inquiry-based approach to characterize and determine if unknown Arabidopsis mutants assigned to them are drought-tolerant. The lab exercises are primarily based on a clearly laid out 'detective manual’ (from the Australian National University). Students will conduct this plant detective project in groups of two to three students. This lab course will teach students concepts of modern plant biology, gain skills in using lab equipment and assays to collect data, and interpret the results. Each group will prepare and present a poster to their peers at the end of the semester.
