Greetings everyone,
We are hosting this year's Western Photosynthesis Conference at Biosphere 2 (January 4-7) and I wanted to make sure that the faculty and students in the School of Plant Sciences at the University of Arizona were aware of this event. This annual regional conference is focused on the fundamentals of plant biology and photosynthesis. It used to be held near Monterey, CA annually but we are now shifting its location each year. The attendees are typically dominated with attendees from Washington State Univ., Arizona State University, University of California at Berkeley, University of California at Davis, Stanford, UCLA, UCSD, Colorado State University, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory and Colorado State University among others. We are actively seeking to include more of our Western colleagues. The majority of the speaking slots are selected from submitted abstracts and we would be delighted to have presentations from UA at this year's conference.
The registration and abstract submission links are now open for the 27th Western Photosynthesis Conference (WPC2018), please go to either http://www.westphotosynthesis.org/ or https://ww2.eventrebels.com/er/EventHomePage/CustomPage.jsp?ActivityID=23531&ItemID=82705. If you encounter any issues during the registration process, please email your questions to meetings at aspb.org<mailto:meetings at aspb.org>.
The Western Photosynthesis Conference (WPC) is an important and engaging meeting that covers the most exciting research advances from laboratories located primarily in the Western United States, with some additional attendees coming from outside of this region. Importantly, the WPC in a mixture of young scientists and more established principal investigators, but focuses on allowing early-career scientists to present their latest research findings to the photosynthesis community. Starting in 2016, the WPC began to alternate venues between the West Coast and interior regions. This year's conference will be at the Biosphere 2 in Arizona.
We are excited about the new venue at Biosphere 2, which will provide a relaxing and interactive atmosphere for high level scientific discussions. During our free time, many recreational opportunities exist in area including a new zipline facility, cave exploration, hiking, a Biosphere 2 tour and golfing among several other opportunities. Of course, we will continue our long-standing tradition of the evening social mixer to foster new acquaintances and to allow catching up with old friends.
To help make WPC2018 successful and rewarding for all, we kindly ask that you spread this information to interested colleagues. Early-Bird registration enables a savings from listed registration fees and will be active until October, 30th, 2017. Travel awards for graduate students and postdoctoral scientists are anticipated.
We hope to see you at WPC2018!
Kind regards from the organizing committee,
