CEAC Friends and Colleagues,

This is a reminder that all are invited to the special seminar on "Organic Hydroponics" that will be held at the CEAC Lecture Room and broadcasted via webinar on October 12th, 4pm (MST) to discuss hydroponics in organics and the future of its existence.


A networking, get acquainted session, with light refreshments, will take place between 3:45 to 4:15 pm at the CEAC lecture room (1951 E Roger Rd, Tucson). A Q&A period will follow the talk.

The panel discussion is being held in response to the recently distributed "National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) Hydroponic and Aquaponic Task Force Report", which provides technical information about organic-based hydroponic and aquaponic systems and represents both sides of the debate on whether or not non-soil systems should continue to be eligible for organic certification.

Dr. Stacy Tollefson of the CEAC and Jose Edgardo Torres of Wholesum Family Farms, both members of the USDA Hydroponic and Aquaponic Task Force, join Executive Director Lee Frankel of the Coalition for Sustainable Organics to discuss hydroponics in organics. Dr. Dennis Ray, Professor of The University of Arizona School of Plant Sciences, will be in attendance to host and facilitate the event.


In attempt to clarify what exactly is happening in the dispute we sat down and interviewed Dr. Stacy Tollefson.  She tackled some common misconceptions that the public are expressing, which regard matters not in dispute.  Listen to the interview here: http://ceac.arizona.edu/organic-hydroponics
