Green Valley Pecan (FICO) is looking for a summer intern (paid) to work in the pecan orchards in Sahuarita this summer.
The primary duties of this person will be to:
1. Oversee release of beneficial insects: FICO has over 1000 acres of organically produced pecans and they are ramping up their use of beneficial insects.
2. Collect leaf, soil, water samples: Many samples are collected in the orchard, sent out for analysis, and then compiled and interpreted. The intern will collect samples in the orchard and help with interpretation.
3. Input purchases into database to track organic production: A large responsibility of organic producers is to keep careful track of materials used in the orchard.
FICO is a family owned and operated company. It's orchard in Sahuarita is the largest in the world (~5,000 acres). They are a fully integrated company and process and market all the pecans they produce (~10 million lb/yr). They cannot provide housing for the intern, but the drive from Tucson is only 30 minutes.
