If you have not completed a full four-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in biological sciences including botany, entomology, plant pathology, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry or related disciplines (e.g., ecology), you must have completed at least 24 semester hours in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry or a related discipline at an accredited college or university plus appropriate experience or additional education.  Examples of qualifying experience may include working in such areas as pest management, environmental monitoring, farm management, agricultural commodity importation and/or exportation or other related experience in pest/pathogen detection, regulation, eradication and control.

CBP is seeking individuals who want to put their scientific education to use protecting America's environment, economy and food supply by preventing the introduction of plant viruses, diseases and bio-threats. Agriculture Specialists work at more than 300 ports of entry located at international airports, seaports and land borders, to curtail the spread of harmful pests and plant and animal diseases that may harm America's farms and food supply as well as avert bio- and agro-terrorism.

Applicants must have a bachelor's or higher degree with a major field of study in Biological Sciences (including Botany, Entomology and Plant Pathology), Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, Chemistry or a field directly related to the position.

This position offers the full range of federal benefits including health and life insurance, paid vacation, sick leave, and a retirement plan. Starting salary range is $31,944 - $48,403, with non-competitive promotion potential to $70,192, plus opportunities to earn overtime pay.  Positions will be filled throughout the following regions: Midwest, Northwest, Northeast, and Southwest.
