2014 Academic Research Consortium (ARC) Summer program 

On behalf of UC Santa Barbara Graduate Division, we are pleased to announce
this year's 2014 Academic Research Consortium (ARC) Summer Program

m> , to run from June 23 to August 8, 2014. 

We are currently accepting applications. Application forms and additional

The deadline to submit completed application packet and materials is April
1, 2014 .

ARC Scholar Activities 

The ARC Summer Program provides mentored research experiences in all
disciplines to undergraduates with the potential to succeed in graduate
study, but who have experienced situations or conditions that have impacted
their advancement in their field of study. 

Once chosen as an ARC Scholar, the student embarks on a 7-week summer
program of research and graduate school preparation, and provided with an
opportunity to explore their discipline, experience research, and improve
their opportunities for future study in their chosen field. Scholars are
matched individually with UCSB faculty and graduate student mentors who
provide training and support. ARC Scholars will receive the following:

.         A 7-week summer research experience from June 23 to August 8, 2014

.         $2500 summer program stipend

.         Housing accommodations in University Housing for non-UCSB students

.         Weekly academic enrichment and professional development workshops

.         Participation in end-of-summer symposium to present research work

.         Preparation for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)

Eligibility

.         U.S. citizens or permanent residents

.         Priority consideration: 

o    Groups underrepresented in higher education

o    Students from economically/educationally disadvantaged backgrounds

o    First generation to attend college

o    Non-traditional students

o    Individuals who have faced life challenges

.         Completion of at least the junior year by June 2014

.         Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
