A new Forest Program Coordinator position is now open. The position will be
based in Phoenix, AZ, but will have statewide responsibilities. The position
will be responsible for providing support to our Agency's Cooperative
Forestry functions, with emphasis in the Urban and Community Forestry (UCF)
and Forest Health (FH) programs. The first review of applicants will be
Friday, 1 November, and will continue until suitable candidates are

JOB SUMMARY 


 


Under general supervision, this full-time position will be responsible for: 

*	Assisting with the maintenance and implementation of a comprehensive
forest health program, and will also assist in the implementation of a
statewide urban and community forestry program 
*	Provide project oversight and direction, natural resource technical
assistance and outreach to community groups, local governments, landowners,
related businesses, and Native American tribal organizations throughout the
State 
*	Oversee and participate in all aspects of various cost assistance
projects, which may include field forestry work, data collection (including
aerial surveys), data reporting, and tracking accomplishments of specific
grant projects 
*	Maintain all project records and financial documents, and prepare
all needed paperwork for assigned projects 
*	Coordinate and direct the planning, development and implementation
of the transfer of urban forestry information to the public including tree
and forest evaluation, disease prevention, tree maintenance and promotion of
urban forestry information and ideas 
*	Communicate goals and objectives for tree planting, pruning and
maintenance of trees and assist with the improvement of urban forestry
practices and the use of green infrastructure throughout the State 
*	Assist with urban interface forestry management planning, including
forest health and maintenance (disease prevention) 
*	Major position emphasis will be in urban and community forestry,
forest health, invasive plants, and tribal relations, though the incumbent
may also work in other general grant-funded forestry related functions
including: firewise implementation, conservation education, public outreach,
forest inventory, forest land management plan assistance, forest
stewardship, geographical information systems mapping, and fuels mitigation 


 


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES


 


Knowledge:

*	Federal, State, Tribal laws/regulations/statutes and Agency
Standards, policies, and procedures applicable to the area(s) of assignment.

*	General knowledge of natural resource management in the Southwest to
include standard forestry practices, dendrology, forest insects and
diseases, urban forestry, wild land firefighting, hazardous fuel treatments,
fire effects, and general multiple resource management (range, wildlife,
soil, water, air).  
*	Knowledge of Arizona ecosystems and their relationships. 

Skills:

*	Computer skills in standard word processing, spreadsheet, and
presentation programs. 
*	Public presentation skills. 
*	Technical report writing and financial document review skills;
attention to detail. 
*	Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills. 
*	Forestry and natural resource measurement skills. 
*	Mapping and GPS skills. 
*	Operational skills utilizing a wide variety of tools and equipment,
such as forest inventory and marking tools, ATVs, and multi-channel radios. 

Abilities:

*	Ability to work independently and/or collectively with colleagues,
clients and team members. 
*	Ability to adapt to changing environments and new technologies. 
*	Comfortable in public speaking situations. 
*	Able to maintain situational awareness in complex project work
environments. 
*	Plan and organize work effectively. 
*	Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to meet tight
deadlines. 

Preferences:

*	Bachelor's degree or higher in Forestry or Natural Resource
Management (or related) 
*	ISA Certified Arborist 
*	Experience with Natural Resources and/or Forestry programs and
activities in Arizona. 
*	Experience developing and implementing public presentations or
workshops. 
*	Experience writing effective documents, reports, and procedure
manuals. 
*	Experience with Urban and Community Forestry programs and activities
in Arizona. 
*	Experience with Forest Insect and Disease (Forest Health) programs
and activities in Arizona 
*	Familiarity with Native American tribes in Arizona - personnel,
customs, programs, etc.
