Job Description:
WILDLIFE AREA MANAGER
FIELD OPERATIONS / REGION 4 / YUMA BASED
FLSA - Non-Exempt
SALARY GRADE 19 ($33,435-$46,623)
ANNOUNCEMENT#3926 / CLOSING DATE: 07/31/2013
Description of Duties: This position will perform management activities on
40,000 acres of land in four separate department managed wildlife areas and
directing all aspects of assigned tasks related to the administration of
these areas including evaluating needs, implementation of land management
projects, monitoring environmental and structural condition of lands,
waters, and facilities. This position will be responsible for evaluating the
maintenance and enhancement needs at regional wildlife areas and stewardship
sites, assists the program manager with drafting wildlife area management
plans subject to approval and participates in their implementation, and
writes draft annual reports. This position will also assist in writing draft
proposals, including funding proposals; tracks budgets, monitors
expenditures and submits accounts payables; administers conservation
projects related to the management of regional wildlife areas and
stewardship projects; operates, maintains, and repairs farm equipment and
irrigation systems at regional wildlife areas; prepares planting schedules;
cultivates wildlife food areas; plants and maintains food crops; makes
approved purchases of equipment and supplies required for these activities.
Position will be responsible for inventories animal communities and their
habitats within regional wildlife areas; participates in staff and
project-planning meetings, and performs other duties as assigned and
provides information outreach on departmental and/or project activities and
functions to wildlife areas visitors, classrooms, event participants and
community groups. This position will also be responsible for coordinating
with local Chambers of Commerce, County and City government officials,
Natural Resource Conservation Districts, and Agricultural Extension Service
as directed.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: (KSA's): The ideal candidate will have
knowledge of general budget management, conservation techniques,
agricultural practices, vehicle and equipment maintenance and operation;
knowledge of federal, state, and local agency roles and functions relative
to wildlife management and environmental issues. The candidate must be
skilled to communicate verbal and writing, public relations techniques, and
problem solve. Must be able to orient, camp, and hike while working alone or
with a partner in primitive field conditions. Must have experience involving
the practical application of conservation practices and/or course work
related to wildlife management/conservation practices. Must be experienced
in farming or ranching and building and/or construction trade and must
