Undergraduates,
Are you interested in volunteering at the Festival of Books Saturday and
Sunday March 9 and 10th? Volunteer service opens doors and is a great
compliment to your academic experiences. BIO5 exhibitors are looking for
volunteers to help staff outreach booths this year. If you're interested,
please contact Uwe Hilgert, Outreach Director for BIO5 (contact info below)
The following exhibitors are looking for your help:
. AZ Genomics Center - help staff their booths on Sat and Sun,
preferably in morning and/or afternoon shifts; mostly handing out rice
samples and talking to people about the upcoming food crisis; training will
be provided and volunteers will always be accompanied by experienced
presenters.
. UA Food Safety Lab - help staff the booth on Sat and Sun,
preferably in morning and/or afternoon shifts; mostly talking to people
about food safety and preservation; training will be provided and volunteers
will always be accompanied by experienced presenters.
. USDA Carl Hayden Bee Research Center - help staff their booths on
Sat and Sun, preferably in morning and/or afternoon shifts; mostly talking
to people about the relevance of bees as pollinators; training will be
provided and volunteers will always be accompanied by experienced
presenters.
Thank you so much for your support.
Uwe

Hi Uwe,
Good to hear from you. Unfortunately, I did not receive your previous
correspondence but am aware of the event as I am already working with the
School of Plant Sciences faculty outreach committee (chaired by Ravi
Palanivelu) to recruit participants from SPLS. My volunteer contacts are
covered within the list of existing participants, but I could spread the
word to additional organizations and a few student groups if you provide a
description of the needs you're seeking to fill, time commitment etc.
Best,
Tanya
