Ecosee: Envisioning Our Place in the Environment through Writing about Image
and Space
English 306 SEC 003 (Class # 33789) TR 2:00-3:15PM Instructor: Stroud, Mary
* How do images and visual metaphors mediate our experiences of
nature?
* How can writing about images and spaces provide insight into
environmental strategies?
* How do the spaces and places we inhabit mediate our attitudes toward
the natural world?
* This course will provide advanced writing practice in a variety of
genres, including:
Personal narrative * Rhetorical analysis * Visual argument *
Creative nonfiction
Focusing on nature writing, media "greenwashing," environmental essays, and
the spaces and places we inhabit everyday, this course is ideal for any
student interested in environmental communication, popular culture,
photography, film, and/or writing for publication. Field trips will be
central to this course. All majors are welcome!
