Calling all faculty, staff and students- your help is needed!
The Math, Science, Technology FunFest is a two day event where 6,000 middle
school children get invited to do hands-on science and engineering at the
Tucson Convention Center. Engineers and scientists from Raytheon, Honeywell,
IBM, U of A, Biosphere, the Desert Wildlife Museum, and other groups all
gather and pool their excitement and passion about science and engineering
in order to help get students interested in pursuing careers in these
fields. Research has shown that middle school is the time when students make
"the choice" - the one that sets them either away from science or towards
it.
This year, we have the largest number of exhibitors ever. The bad news is
that we desparately need student volunteers who can spare even 2 hours
between 9 am and 1 pm on Thursday February 16th or Friday February 17th. If
you can commit to a block of time, please go to
<http://www.mathsciencefunfest.org/> www.mathsciencefunfest.org and register
as a volunteer and put the times you are available in the comments section.
This is a great resume bullet for students or a great way for professionals
that shows engagement and communication skills. If you join, you will find
yourself possibly making silly putty, maybe extracting DNA, maybe helping
students touch a human brain, or breaking apart owl pellets.
Please consider joining the rest of the U of A community in making this
event a success. If you have questions, please email me at
blowers at email.arizona.edu
