Sign up for an Alternative Spring Break!

Each year students from the U of A attend a week long service learning

vacation somewhere in the United States over the U of A Spring Break, from
March 10th - March 17th, 2012. Each

trip carries a nominal fee of $150.00. This covers all transportation and
housing costs and all meals! New this year

we are also offering 2 half-week Tucson-based trips to serve those who want
a shorter service trip. This year we

are offering five fantastic destinations to work with the following
Organizations:

San Diego Rescue Mission

We will be working with the San Diego Rescue Mission to help them achieve
their mission of providing San Diego's

homeless with food and clothing and compassion. This includes working in
their thrift store and soup kitchen. For

more information on the organization, please visit their website at
http://www.sdrescue.org/

Project C.U.R.E. - Colorado

Project C.U.R.E. is an organization that collects, boxes, and distributes
medical supplies to needy communities

around the world. They also sponsor a variety of hands-on missions all
around the world to help distribute the packages

and teach recipients how to make the best use out of their new medical
equipment. Our work with Project

C.U.R.E. will include helping with receiving, categorizing, and packaging
medical supplies in their warehouse and

office headquarters just outside of Denver, Colorado. This is an excellent
opportunity for those interested in NGO

Catalina Island Conservancy

The Conservancy works actively to keep Catalina wild by engaging in
conservation and restoration efforts that have

roots in sound science. The Conservancy provides lifelong learning
opportunities to help children and adults discover

and understand their connections to nature. We will be working with the
Catalina Conservancy to help maintain the

nature preserve and learn about the unique conditions on Catalina Island.*

The Nature Conservancy - New Mexico

'The mission of The Nature Conservancy is to preserve the plants, animals
and natural communities that represent

the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need
to survive.' We will be working with the

New Mexico Nature Conservancy helping with native species removal, trail
improvement, and other conservancy

activities. There will also be time for nature hikes and for exploring the
habitat of New Mexico, which is very similar

Local 1/2 week Trips

These trip are designed for students who still wish to donate their time and
participate in a meaningful service learning

opportunity but may have constraints on their time during Spring Break. For
this reason Habitat Tucson trip is

from Wednesday 14th - Saturday 17th and the Human Borders trip is from
Saturday, 10th - Tuesday, 13th. We also

hope that these local trips will introduce students to the unique issues
that face their new home in Tucson and provide

them an introduction into the service opportunities in Tucson. These trips
also carry a reduced cost of $75.00.

We welcome all people to build simple, decent, affordable houses in
partnership with those who lack adequate shelter.

Together, through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, we
have built or rehabilitated more than

350,000 houses, providing shelter for more than 1.75 million people in
nearly 90 countries around the world.
