Denver Botanic Gardens is now accepting applications for

2011 Summer Internships in Horticulture, Chatfield CSA and Plant Records

Summer internships at Denver Botanic Gardens provide students with hands-on
experience in public gardening. Interns are immersed in the wide variety of
daily activities that are required to keep a public garden growing and
attractive - planting, watering, weeding, mulching, pruning, etc.

In addition to daily activities, interns in Horticulture will work with a
mentor on an individualized garden-based project or will garden in a
specialized setting. Below are brief descriptions of just a few of the
projects proposed for summer 2011:

*	Horticulture Therapy - lead some of the existing horticulture
therapy activities and design a new horticulture therapy activity
*	Water conservation in a public garden - conduct water audits and
help assess effectiveness of a newly installed controller
*	Developing community in a community garden - assist with community
garden activities
*	Japanese gardening using Colorado natives: assist in the evaluation
of a bonsai collection donation and learn how indigenous plants can be
transformed into a Japanese garden
*	Evaluate existing plants and propose new plants for a thematic
garden, the Scripture Garden
*	Document Quercus collection through photographs and collect
herbarium specimens
*	Specialized gardening - Children's Garden

The Plant Records internship will assist with mapping and inventorying
several newly constructed gardens and entering information into BG Base, a
common public garden plant inventory database. Applicants for this position
should have a working knowledge of AutoCAD.

New in 2011, we are offering an internship at our Chatfield location, a
short drive from our central Denver location. The intern chosen for this
project will be involved in the daily operation of the Chatfield CSA. Tasks
will include planting, weeding, watering, harvesting, washing, and assisting
with weekly CSA distributions of produce to shareholders.

To round out the summer, we throw in a couple of group projects, 5 field
trips, some talks and a few other educational activities. But don't think
that it's all work and no play. There are definitely opportunities for fun
as well.

The Details:
