<i><span style="font-family:"Charter Roman",serif;color:#232333;letter-spacing:.3pt;background:white">In Yuma County, Arizona, the agricultural industry heavily relies on Mexican citizens who come to work with temporary visas, commuting from Mexico across the
 international border. These individuals play a crucial role in the local farming community. By surveying them, we can gain valuable insights into how people in the agricultural sector and neighboring communities perceive the emerging plant technologies being
 developed by CROPPS. Their perspectives can help guide the application of these technologies in both domestic and international agricultural production. We conducted surveys during the<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span><b>Dia de los Campesinos</b><span class="apple-converted-space"> </span>event,
 an annual event for over 20 years in San Luis, AZ. This event brings together over 3,000 farmworkers and their families to provide free health services, immigration help, food, and cultural activities. This event provided a unique opportunity to collect data
 from this important stakeholder group, enhancing our understanding of their thoughts and needs regarding evolving agricultural technologies. In our presentation, we will share the research findings from our survey and reflect on the lessons learned from engaging

<p><b><i><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif;color:black">Sohinee Bera</span></i></b><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif;color:black"> is a second-year PhD Student in the Department of Communication
 at Cornell University. She is a first-year trainee in CROPPS, working with Bruce V. Lewenstein in the SEED theme. Within CROPPS, she is interested in evaluating and characterizing public engagement initiatives and understanding how these insights are incorporated
 back into research design and motivations. More broadly, her research explores how social and cultural mechanisms shape how people think about environmental issues, and to utilize those insights in culturally appropriate pro-environmental interventions.</span><o:p></o:p></p>

<p><b><i><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif;color:black">Cristian Salazar De Leon</span></i></b><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif;color:black"> is a fourth-year PhD Candidate in the School of Plant
 Sciences at The University of Arizona. He is a member of the CROPPS TLC and is working with Jesse Woodson in the iTOC theme. His research interests are to develop synthetic plant biotechnology tools that can be used to solve key agricultural challenges such
 as nitrogen and water usage efficiency. Within CROPPS, his research focuses on designing and implementing optogenetic switches that can be used to finetune gene expression in plants; with the long-term goal of implementing this technology in a programmable
 plant.</span><o:p></o:p></p>
