<p class="MsoNormal"><em><span style="font-family:Palatino;font-style:normal">Goal and course format: This course will cover how one gets a job after getting a Ph.D., focusing primarily on academic jobs. The first part of the course will focus on what qualifications
are needed for different types of jobs (e.g. teaching university, research university, other). Hint: this will often require publishing papers in good journals. The second and longest part of the course will focus on publishing papers and designing publishable
research. We will discuss research design, types of papers, the mechanics of paper writing, choosing journals, and the process of submitting, revising, and publishing papers. The third part of the course will focus on the details of getting a tenure-track
job. This will include where and when to apply, preparing application materials, interviewing, and negotiating.
