Hi all!

I hope that your semester is concluding smoothly and that everybody is in good health.

We need to hold elections for the PLSGSC officer positions for the upcoming academic year. In previous years we have held elections in an open forum at one of the club meetings. Even if there are valid reasons for doing so, it can be uncomfortable to speak out against a particular nominee in this setting. None of us want to hurt each other or damage our working relationships. Thus, we are going to make this years election process anonymous to encourage a
greater diversity of nominees and provide a level playing field during the
election process.

The first thing we need you to do is nominate your peers (or yourself) for the following officer positions: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Public Relations Officer, and Records Officer. I have attached the club's constitution for you to review our objectives and see what duties are required of each officer. Please email me your nominations. We will accept nominations through May 1st. I will send out two reminders during this period

The current officers will maintain a list of nominees for each position. We will contact each nominee to see if they would like to be considered for the position they have been nominated for.

We will then send out an anonymous survey for people to vote. You will be able to cast your vote anytime from May 2nd through May 6th. This survey will require you to include your name to prevent multiple votes by a single person, or votes from people who aren't eligible to vote. I will be the only student to see these names and promise to maintain everybody's privacy. I am heading off to the frozen north at the end of this semester and will not be running for any position, so this should not present a conflict of interest. I will only share this information with the club's advisor, Dr. Pryor, so that he may be consulted should there be any suspicion of foul play.

We will announce who has been elected for each position at the final club meeting. Stay tuned for further details...

Serving as an officer in PLSGSC may require an extra bit of your time, but it is a good way to demonstrate leadership and can be included in your CV and/or funding proposals to set yourself apart from the competition. I strongly encourage you to seek out leadership opportunities such as this. Good luck to all of you!

Lauren

--

Lauren W.
