Genomics and pangenomics of grapevines and their wild relatives
Wild grape species (Vitis spp.) are crucial for enhancing viticulture's climatic resilience and sustainability. Dario will present the challenges associated with studying clonally propagated and highly heterozygous outcrossing species, and how breakthroughs in genome assembly and analysis of Vitis spp. have led to discoveries concerning grape evolution, from adaptation to environmental stress to grape domestication. He will describe how diploid chromosome-scale genomes from wild Vitis spp. have enabled the identification of candidate disease-resistance and flower sex determination genes, and the creation of the first Vitis graph-based pangenome. Additionally, he will emphasize the important of data sharing and the impact that www.grapegenomics.com<http://www.grapegenomics.com> has made on grape research.
