Dear all,

Correction: Please note that my flyer says Tuesday, when in fact this seminar will be taking place on a Thursday.

We will still have our regularly scheduled seminar that week on Tuesday.

Pardon the confusion.
Best,

Keenia

Dear all,

On April 18, the Arizona Genomics Institute is hosting Prof. Dario Cantù (UC Davis) for a visit at their lab and to the School of Plant Sciences. Dario will give a seminar (place on Thursday April 18 at 11:00 am at Marley 230) and will be happy to meet with the faculty and students before and after that time. The draft schedule for the event is pasted below, for any questions reach out to Dario Copetti (dcopetti at arizona.edu)

Dario Cantù is professor and Louis P. Martini Endowed Chair in the Department of Viticulture and Enology, and a member of the Genome Center at UC Davis. At UC Davis he conducts research on genome evolution and the genetic improvement of grapes.

Abstract: Wild grape species (Vitis spp.) are crucial for enhancing viticulture's climatic resilience and sustainability. Dario will present the challenges associated with studying clonally propagated and highly heterozygous outcrossing species, and how breakthroughs in genome assembly and analysis of Vitis spp. have led to discoveries concerning grape evolution, from adaptation to environmental stress to grape domestication. He will describe how diploid chromosome-scale genomes from wild Vitis spp. have enabled the identification of candidate disease-resistance and flower sex determination genes, and the creation of the first Vitis graph-based pangenome. Additionally, he will emphasize the important of data sharing and the impact that www.grapegenomics.com<http://www.grapegenomics.com/> has made on grape research.
