[Plsgs] Fwd: [EXT]Invitation to Mentor with the STAR Lab 2023-2024

Hello!

Are you a graduate student, postdoc or professor looking for meaningful
STEM outreach? Are you interested in honing your mentoring skills? Are you
excited about communicating science and engineering strategies and ways of
thinking to the next generation of students? If yes, we need you!

Join our 2023-2024 high school mentoring program, Students Taking Advantage
of Research, STAR Lab <https://mcb.arizona.edu/outreach/star-lab>

STAR Lab matches Arizona high school students, 16 years or older, with
mentors to support student driven research and meets the UArizona Youth
Safety criteria for working with minors. As a STAR Lab mentor, you will
support your mentee as they develop and execute a research project that
will be presented at the local science and engineering fair.

As a mentor, you provide the scientific leadership and expertise, and the
STAR Lab Program provides scaffolded support for students of all levels to
learn and practice science communication skills (see attached).

STAR Lab 2023-2024 will run from *September 19, 2023, to March 15, 2024*,
and will include a short mentor training prior to the start of the program. If
you have questions, please contact me today! I am happy to schedule a time
to talk about the program with you.

Thank you for volunteering for the 2023-2024 STAR Lab mentoring program. We
could not do this without dedicated mentors such as you! The STAR Lab program
will begin the week of September 18, 2023 with program orientation and the
announcement of mentor and student matches. The program will end the week
of the SARSEF Science and Engineering Fair, in early March 2024. As a STAR
Lab Mentor, you will be providing a life changing opportunity for a young
Arizona scientist or engineer. Please fill out this short questionnaire and
provide us with information about the nature of the research opportunities
you can offer a high school student. Thank you!
