Subject: Spring 2023 Graduate Writing Lab Services

Hello,

Happy 2023 and start of a new semester! The Graduate Writing Lab has a few updates on our services to support graduate student writers this spring. We would appreciate if you could share this information with graduate students in your department.

Here is a summary of the resources that we offer:

Writing Efficiency Sessions
These are structured writing sessions designed to help graduate students get writing done. The sessions are dedicated to working on writing projects independently, while encouraging goal setting and accountability. We hold four two-hour sessions each week; the first session will be on Tuesday, January 17th. Additional information and a link to register for these sessions are available here<https://gradcenter.arizona.edu/graduate-writing-lab/writing-efficiency-sessions>. (Note that Fall 2022 registrants will need to re-register for Spring 2023.)

Graduate Writing Tutors
We have certified peer tutors available to help graduate students receive feedback on their writing projects. All appointments are 45 minutes, and we offer in-person, Zoom, and asynchronous appointment styles. This service has already started for the semester. Additional information and a link to schedule an appointment are available here<https://gradcenter.arizona.edu/graduate-writing-tutors>.

Writing Workshops
These online workshops are designed to provide information on key aspects of graduate student writing. We are holding several workshops this semester, with topics ranging from data management to dissertation formatting. The first workshop, "Using the Data Cooperative as a Grad Student," will be on Friday, January 27th, at 9 AM. A list of all planned workshops and associated registration links are available here<https://gradcenter.arizona.edu/graduate-writing-lab/writing-workshops>.

Graduate Writing Groups
These are month-long groups intended to promote healthy writing habits and foster community among graduate students. Each group, led by a facilitator, meets once a week for five weeks to set goals, discuss writing topics, and share resources. We will be holding several writing groups this semester, with themes ranging from non-native English speakers to 21st century master's students. The first set of groups will begin the week of January 30th. A list of planned groups and associated interest forms are available here<https://gradcenter.arizona.edu/graduate-writing-groups> (additional groups and details will be posted in the next few weeks).

If you have any questions about our services, please email Shelley Hawthorne Smith (shellh at arizona.edu<mailto:shellh at arizona.edu>) and Connie Sun (conniesun at arizona.edu<mailto:conniesun at arizona.edu>). Thanks!
