Happy new year! We are currently recruiting 1-3 graduate students or postdocs for a pilot seminar through UA's Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL), a national teaching professional development network for STEM graduate students and postdocs. We are seeking participants who have prior teaching experience or training and would like to do a small-scale teaching-as-research study and receive a 1-unit independent study credit. Thank you for circulating this call on our behalf, and let us know if you have any questions!
Sincerely,
Kristin Winet & Byron Hempel
CIRTL Teaching-as-Research Independent Study (IA699)

Class time & location will be determined by student availability.
[cid:image002.jpg at 01D921E7.C5EF3310]Are you interested in learning how to think like a professor does? Would you like to be able to talk about your STEM teaching more effectively in future job and fellowship applications? We are looking for 1-3 graduate students or postdocs to help us pilot a new Teaching-as-Research (TAR) series. In this 1-credit independent study, you'll learn the teaching-as-research inquiry cycle<https://www.thecreativeeducator.com/v07/articles/Embracing_Action_Research>, which includes researching an active learning technique, trying it out, and determining if it is beneficial. You will complete weekly assignments and meet for check-ins (total ~2-3 hours/week). Doing a TAR project is a fun, insightful process that will complement your teaching!
This project is supported by the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=8201ba5e40f66a57b8460730206c2b74db90a007e1e70206426d465a60177d3e59a3a2877eeb0baa6e1be63ed4451b7e8d8e74468472ad1e> (CIRTL), the UA's teaching professional development network for STEM graduate students and postdocs, and the University Center for Assessment, Teaching, and Technology<https://ucatt.arizona.edu/> (UCATT). Students do not need to be teaching their own course and can be paired with a faculty member. If you're interested, contact Dr. Byron Hempel<mailto:byronhempel at arizona.edu.> and Dr. Kristin Winet<mailto:kwinet at arizona.edu> by Wednesday, January 11, 2023.
