Careers of CALS Graduate Program Alumni
In CALS, one of our strategic intents is to “produce employable graduates, who can do jobs that do not yet exist and create new jobs”. The CALS Career Competency Development Plan<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=435c0a68cbc64215e2130a7263addb4ee0686997fbd2711152b760819534255ef44e8e4e297658496f4bd65764440ffb8569b0702f3f157c> is designed to help each student build the necessary skills to fulfill this goal. Below you will see data on the job sector of PhD students who graduated between 2006-2016 and MS students who graduated between 2009-2019.
As one might expect, the distribution across job sectors varies depending upon degree program or scientific discipline. If you would like more information on discipline or program specific numbers, please contact me (limesank at arizona.edu<mailto:limesank at arizona.edu?subject=>). Lastly and perhaps most importantly, we need your help to update these data! Please connect with the CALS LinkedIn<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=435c0a68cbc642159de107044f0f5b4d90eeca6b89521e15f7a10c22ab4d3a4915b90e28164c3e42a3a6cef329f303c3d78403d6a938b7aa> page.

Guidance on taxes/establishing residency
During the Fall 2019 and March 2022 semesters, I met with individuals from all CALS affiliated graduate programs to listen to the concerns of graduate students. At the end of each semester, I created a list of topics that were discussed and distributed via the graduate student listserv. Each Master the Month messenger will include an update from one of these topics.

Just as people trained in CPR help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. Each year, thousands of Americans like you are saying "yes" to saving the life of a friend, colleague, family member, or neighbor. This session is intended to teach managers and supervisors how to recognize suicidal behavior in co-workers, employees, family, and friends and to ask important questions. QPR Gatekeeper Training is brought to the University of Arizona by Life & Work Connections and Campus Health. The key underlying capabilities for the KMAP platform come from Dr. Stephen Kobourov’s research (Prof. Computer Science). KMAP employs advanced Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing techniques to integrate research contributions such as publications, proposals and bio-sketches. KMAP discovers underlying institutional collaboration networks from these high dimensional data sets, visualizing the relationships as web-based geographical maps which are easy to navigate, search and explore. Another feature of KMAP makes it possible to identify UArizona subject matter experts given free text input such as calls for proposals or abstract. KMAP is a collaborative effort by RII (Iqbal Hossain<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=bea3bc939ef5bc7dbbbf94b262a1dfbd7ddc1295bee87500b4c183cf72df2e2d3531c1964a1620ea610b5437fae08367285d6e9da11c75a5>), the Computer Science Department (Stephen Kobourov<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=bea3bc939ef5bc7dcea6e0b6af62c91dd256c55a868800b23200a34907fee05fd0c9f7c080a6a1b6da7fefd31379d4513c93843ca5a5bdfa>) and the Data Science Institute (Nirav Merchant<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=bea3bc939ef5bc7d19de27cdbee31af10cbbf3cfff960e965ee1ac0b31a2c488630d60f640ba3633945e97361ea3c555a1ae70b15b4aa708>).
