Greetings Amanda,

I am reaching out from Native Seeds/SEARCH,<https://www.nativeseeds.org/> a seed conservation organization based in Tucson. We specialize in the preservation of arid-adapted and Indigenous crops of the Southwest.

We have two- short term positions available that I am hoping to share with U of A students in the School of Plant Sciences.

One is a 6 month position as a Farming and Seed Saving Apprentice <https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0157/0808/files/Apprenticeship.pdf?v=1637791526> to help maintain and expand seed production at our Conservation Center in Tucson. The Apprentice will gain hands-on gardening and seed saving experience. The ideal candidate has a vocational desire to start a farm or seed bank within the region. We can accommodate the schedule of students for this position.

The second, the Maize Health Consultant,<https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0157/0808/files/Maize_Specialist.docx.pdf?v=1637791344> is for a consultancy to work 3 to 6 weeks to assist in developing a strategy and plan to improve the health of corn varieties within the collection, specifically addressing issues of fusarium and inbreeding depression, and increase the quantity of healthy corn. The consultancy will require access to the NS/S database, CURATE, and the seedbank in order to assess and provide recommendations on priorities for the 600 corn accessions.

Please feel free to share these opportunities or reach out with any questions.

Appreciatively,
Andrea Carter
