Survival Skills and Ethics (SLHS 649, Spring 2021)
This course is designed for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in all disciplines. It provides information and experiences that aid in successful "survival" during the training years and beyond. Topics include: Effective Speaking, Effective Writing, Authorship, Publication, and Peer Review, Grantspersonship, Teaching / Mentoring, Career Options, Job Application, Interviewing, and Negotiating, Compliance Requirements, and Other Creative Activities. Earn a Responsible Conduct in Research (RCR) certificate upon course completion. This course also fulfills 3 units of elective credit toward the earning of the following two University of Arizona certificates: Certificate in College Teaching and Certificate in Science Communication.

Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad
The purpose of the Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (FH DDRA) fellowship is to contribute to the development and improvement of the study of modern foreign languages and area studies in the U.S. by supporting full-time dissertation research abroad. Research projects must focus on one or more of the following geographic areas: Africa, East Asia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands, South Asia, the Near East, Central and Eastern Europe and Eurasia, and the Western Hemisphere (including South and Central America). Research in Western Europe and the U.S. and its territories is not supported by this grant. This program is different than the Student Fulbright.

This highly competitive program strengthens the connections between scientists and journalists by placing advanced undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate level scientists, engineers and mathematicians at media organizations nationwide. Fellows have worked as reporters, editors, researchers, and production assistants at such media outlets as the Los Angeles Times, National Public Radio, The Washington Post, WIRED, and Scientific American. The Mass Media Fellows use their academic training in the sciences as they research, write and report today's headlines, sharpening their abilities to communicate complex scientific issues to non-specialists. American Bus Association Academic Merit Scholarships
The ABA Foundation mission is to support the motorcoach travel and tour industry with research and scholarships that benefit the ABA, policymakers and the public. Academic Merit Scholarships are open to both ABA and non-ABA Members. You must be a freshman, sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student at an accredited university (4-year university/college or junior college). You must have a declared major or course of study relevant to the transportation, travel, and tourism industry. Transportation, travel and tourism encompass a varying range of professions from accounting to hospitality management and everything in between. Center for Reintegration Scholarships
Reintegration is an achievable goal and dreams are possible for those who have been touched by mental illness. The Center for Reintegration together with the Sidney R. Baer Jr. Foundation will continue to offer the Baer Reintegration Scholarship for those active in their recovery. These scholarships are for persons with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, or bipolar disorder. Applicants must be actively involved in rehabilitative or reintegrative efforts, such as clubhouse membership, part-time work, volunteer efforts or school enrollment or in competitive employment.

The Chateaubriand Fellowship is a grant offered by the Embassy of France in the United States. It supports outstanding Ph.D. students from American universities who wish to conduct research in France for a period ranging from 4 to 9 months. Federal Employee Education & Assistance Fund
Since 1986, FEEA has given almost 11,000 merit-based scholarships to federal public servants, their spouses, children, and grandchildren. An additional nearly 200 scholarships to surviving children whose federal employee parents died or were severely injured in the line of duty during terrorist attacks, such as those on the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, the Pentagon on 9-11, and the US Embassies and Consulates in Kenya, Tanzania, and Libya. Carter Manny Award in Architecture and Related Fields
Since the Carter Manny Award’s establishment in 1996, over $815,000 has been awarded in recognition of outstanding doctoral students whose work represents some of the most innovative and advanced scholarship on architecture and its role in the arts, culture, and society. Horowitz Foundation for Social Policy Doctoral Fellowship
The Horowitz Foundation for Social Policy was established in 1997 by Irving Louis Horowitz and Mary E. Curtis as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization. NSF Biological Anthropology Program-Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grants (BA-DDRIG)
The Biological Anthropology Program supports multifaceted research to advance scientific knowledge of human biology and ecology, including understanding of our evolutionary history and mechanisms that have shaped human and nonhuman primate biological diversity. This solicitation specifically addresses the preparation and evaluation of proposals for such Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement (DDRI) Grants. Dissertation research projects in all of the subareas of biological anthropology are eligible for support through these grants. UA Confluencenter 2021 Mellon-Fronteridades Graduate Fellowships
The Mellon-Fronteridades Graduate Fellowship program aims to support current UArizona graduate students with interdisciplinary research projects seeking to advance our understanding of the narratives, experiences, knowledges, histories, performances, spaces and heritages that shape and are shaped by the U.S.-Mexico borderlands. NIH Blueprint Diversity Specialized Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Advancement in Neuroscience
The D-SPAN F99/K00 award is intended for individuals who have demonstrated an interest in a neuroscience research career in NIH Blueprint mission-relevant areas and/or BRAIN Initiative research areas. At the time of award, applicants are expected to require 1-2 years to complete their PhD dissertation research training (F99 phase) before transitioning to mentored postdoctoral research training (K00 phase). Bard Graduate Center/Brooklyn Museum Postdoctoral Fellow in the Arts of Africa
Working in partnership with, and under the direction of the Curator of African Arts, the BGC/BKM Postdoctoral Fellow will assist in all aspects of the development of the Museum’s installation of its renowned African Arts collection in a new dedicated gallery scheduled to open in 2025, with a particular focus on interpreting historical African art through a contemporary lens. The Fellow will also have the opportunity to curate dossier-style collection installations, at the Brooklyn Museum and/or at BGC, and additionally, will contribute to the planning of a 2023 State of the Field symposium on African art at Bard Graduate Center, to be held on the 100th anniversary of the Brooklyn Museum’s groundbreaking 1923 display of 1,500 works, which remains one of the largest exhibitions of African art ever mounted. National Academy of Education/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
The postdoctoral fellowship was established in 1986 by the NAEd with a grant from the Spencer Foundation. The fellowship program is intended to support early-career scholars working in critical areas of education research. To that end, the NAEd seeks to fund proposals that promise to make significant scholarly contributions to the field of education and to advance the careers of the recipients. University of Arizona Biomedical Engineering Postdoctoral Research Associate
A postdoctoral research associate position is available in the research group of Dr. Mark Van Dyke in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Arizona. We are developing a coating system using a form of biomimicry that relies on a recombinant protein-based nanomaterial. The postdoc will be able to gain experience in the fields of biomaterials, medical devices, molecular biology, cell biology and recombinant protein technology. The postdoc will perform research in biomaterials, and utilize protocols to clone, express and purify recombinant protein-based starting materials. As part of their training, the postdoc will also be responsible for instructing and overseeing the work of undergraduate students, and will be expected to pursue multiple, independent projects. This is a two-year project focused on advanced prosthetics.
