Career Forward Summer Series
For ALL graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. In collaboration with Postdoctoral Affairs, the Graduate Center is facilitating a free Career Forward Summer Series focused on career preparation for non-academic jobs (e.g. for profit, non-profit, government). Two presentations remain:
Creating and Tailoring Industry Appropriate Application Materials – July 23rd (12-1pm)
Your application materials need to clearly communicate how you are a good fit for the role to which you are applying. Rarely will a CV be your document of choice when applying to industry roles. Learn strategies, tips, and tricks for creating materials that will get you interviews.
Preparing For and Acing Industry Interviews – August 6th (12-1pm)
The best way to improve at interviewing is to prepare and practice. Thankfully, there are many resources and tools available to help you do both. Learn how best to prepare and practice for the interviews you anticipate having to help increase your chances of receiving an offer.
No registration is needed; simply watch on Facebook Live via the Postdoctoral Affairs Facebook page. You don’t need a Facebook account to watch or access the videos! Additionally, all presentations are accessible on the Postdoctoral Affairs Facebook page.
Career Forward Sprint
Friendly reminder that a new Career Forward Sprint begins every month and there are still seats available in the August Sprint!
For graduate students and postdoctoral scholars thinking about careers outside the academy. This free fully online (D2L) program teaches strategies to help you successfully navigate your career beyond the academy, while presenting your most professional self. The 1-month cohort experience covers: 1) career research and discovery, 2) building your network and your professional self, 3) developing your application materials, and 4) preparing for and practicing interviews. In typical Sprint fashion, recommended daily tasks help ensure you keep moving forward! If you have questions or want to reserve your spot, please email Joel Muraco<mailto:muraco at email.arizona.edu?subject=Career%20Forward%20Sprint> or Ryan Sermon<mailto:rsermon at email.arizona.edu?subject=Career%20Forward%20Sprint>. A new cohort begins every month.
Career Advising
The Graduate Center is here to support graduate students and postdoctoral scholars in their career endeavors, with a focus on the transition to industry, government, business, and non-profit employment sectors. Support includes identifying opportunities, conducting searches, networking, drafting application materials, and interviewing. You can schedule a 1:1 career advising appointment using Handshake <https://arizona.joinhandshake.com/appointments/new> (select "Graduate College Career Advising" and follow the prompts) or by emailing Joel Muraco<mailto:muraco at email.arizona.edu?subject=Career%20Advising%20Appointment&body=Hi%20Joel%2C%0A%0AI%27d%20like%20to%20schedule%20a%20career%20advising%20appointment%20with%20you.%0A%0A%5Binclude%20relevant%20information%20about%20who%20you%20are%20and%20include%20some%20potential%20days%2Ftimes%20the%20work%20for%20you%20to%20get%20the%20ball%20rolling%20on%20scheduling%20an%20appointment%5D> or Ryan Sermon<mailto:rsermon at email.arizona.edu?subject=Career%20Advising%20Appointment&body=Hi%20Ryan%2C%0A%0AI%27d%20like%20to%20schedule%20a%20career%20advising%20appointment%20with%20you.%0A%0A%5Binclude%20relevant%20information%20about%20who%20you%20are%20and%20include%20some%20potential%20days%2Ftimes%20the%20work%20for%20you%20to%20get%20the%20ball%20rolling%20on%20scheduling%20an%20appointment%5D> directly.
