Hello all,
I hope your semester has gone well and you enter finals week with a sense of satisfaction at having persevered through a trying and unusual semester. We appreciate all the hard work you have done keeping our research and teaching mission going forward in a constantly changing and difficult environment. A particular thanks is due our TAs who helped faculty and students navigate this pandemic semester.
Everybody should be talking to their advisors about classes and research/dissertation/thesis units for the Spring semester. PLP 550, Principles of Plant Microbiology, is a required course and almost all students should be signing up for that this Spring. There is no School wide journal club being offered, but topic specific journal clubs may be offered by faculty and you can enroll in those. Most students should be signing up for seminar, and there are slots open early in the semester if you need to present a seminar in Spring.
All students on TA/RA funding need to be registered for at least 6 units for your contacts to be processed, so let me know next week about registering for research/dissertation/thesis units.
I encourage you all to check into the Box folders we set up for all students (arizona.box.com) and look at the Progress Checklists there. These are designed to help you and your advisor keep track of requirements and forms. Check off items you have completed and make a note of those that are coming up. I suggest you do the same in UAccess GradPath.
Covid-19 community transmission is widespread so be careful over the holidays to social distance, mask up and wash hands frequently. If you have not signed up for UA Alert, you might want to do so as some Covid alerts as well as other emergency alerts are delivered over that system (https://cirt.arizona.edu/ualert). UA Covid updates are found here https://covid19.arizona.edu/updates and the School will forward any important information as we get it, so please read those emails.
I will be on holiday from Dec 23-Jan 4. I won't be responding to email during that time so if you have any issues that you need resolved before then, let me know early next week. UA is officially closed between December 24-December 31.
Wishing you all a safe and restful semester break,
Georgina
