Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad
The U.S. Department of Education has released a Notice of Invitation for applications for fiscal year (FY) 2018 for the Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (FHDDRA) Fellowship program, https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2018/05/16/2018-10476/applications-for-new-awards-fulbright-hays-doctoral-dissertation-research-abroad-fellowship-program
Purpose of Program: The Fulbright-Hays DDRA Fellowship program provides opportunities to doctoral candidates to engage in full-time dissertation research abroad in modern foreign languages and area studies for periods of 6 to 12 months. The program is designed to contribute to the development and improvement of the study of modern foreign languages and area studies in the United States.
Citizenship: To receive an award, a student must be a U.S. citizens, permanent resident, or national of the United States
Geographic Location of Research and Competitive Priorities: Proposed projects must focus on one or more of the following areas: Africa, East Asia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands, South Asia, the Near East, Central and Eastern Europe and Eurasia, and the Western Hemisphere (including Central and South America but excluding the United States and its territories).
Eligibility: A student is eligible to receive a fellowship if he or she:
1) Is a citizen, national, or permanent resident of the United States;
2) Is a graduate student in good standing and who, when the fellowship period begins, has been admitted to candidacy;
3) Is planning a teaching career in the United States upon graduation or will apply language skills in world areas vital to US national security and knowledge of these countries in the fields of government, international development and various professions;
4) Possesses adequate skills in the language(s) necessary to carry out the dissertation research project.

Wednesday, May 16, 2018 - Application is available in G5 at https://www.g5.gov
Wednesday, May 30, 2018 - Submit Notice of Intent to Apply to the UA Office of Fellowships & Community Engagement by submitting the form below or contacting the office by email. (Please do this as soon as possible!)
Tuesday, June 12, 2018 - Submit drafts for review, including budget and IRB statement
Wednesday, June 20, 2018 - Internal UA deadline for student submission of all application components
Friday, June 22, 2018 - Electronic routing for signatures by students, advisors and deans
Tuesday, June 26, 2018 - Graduate College submission to Sponsored Projects for review.
Friday, June 29, 2018 - Target date for submission
Monday, July 2, 2018 1:30 p.m. Arizona time - Closing Date for Institutional Electronic Submission
September 2018 - Expected notification of awards
October 1, 2018 - Beginning of 18 month grant period. All research must take place between October 1, 2018 and March 31, 2020.
