[Plsgs] Grad Club Meeting Recap

Dear SPLS Grad Students,

Thank you to those who were able to come and participate in the grad club
meeting today!  For those of you that couldn't make it, we had a good
turnout (15 people) and came up with many ideas for social and outreach
events.

The first event will take place sometime in July and will likely be a Mario
Kart social event on one of the floors in Marley!  Once I get Mario Kart
working on the projector, I will send out a doodle poll for dates that work
best.

On the topic of student issues, several people showed interest in forming
"study groups" for the following subjects:

   1. Study Group for Ph.D. students preparing to take their comprehensive
   exams
   2. Writing Group for students writing a manuscript or dissertation
   3. Unofficial Journal Club for students with similar research interests
   to discuss scientific articles in a casual setting

If any of the groups mentioned above interest you, please email me and I
will send out separate emails to each group so that you all can schedule
meeting times.

I look forward to a year full of fun grad club events!
