GPSC Student Showcase
The Graduate and Professional Student Council (GPSC) is in search of the best student research and creative projects at The University of Arizona for our Annual Student Showcase.
The Student Showcase will take place on Wednesday, February 21, 2018. This is a chance for undergraduate and graduate students from all departments across campus to prove their exceptional talents by displaying their research to their peers, faculty, and the University of Arizona community. Awards totaling over $15,000 are given to students. These awards range from $1,000 for the President's Award to $125 for second place finishers in the individual categories. Please check out our website for more information regarding awards.
Increase your chances to win a cash prize for your work. The Willock Awards will identify six individuals to each receive an award of $1000.
We highly encourage both graduate and undergraduate students to participate in this exciting and important event. This year, we have the space to accommodate over 200 student projects.
Submit your application by Sunday, January 24, 2018
For more information and instructions on how to submit an application to present at Student Showcase, visit our website<https://gpsc.arizona.edu/student-showcase>.
Call for Judges: GPSC Student Showcase
My name is Patrice Moritz, and I am the Events Director for the Graduate and Professional Student Council. The Student Showcase is the largest student-run research exhibition here at the University of Arizona. I would like to invite you to be a judge for the Student Showcase 2018, which will take place Wednesday, February 21st on the UA Mall.
This year, judges will need to be available from 8:30 am until 12:00 pm on Wednesday, February 21st. Breakfast will be available beginning at 8am, and judge's orientation will start at 8:30 am in the student union. Judging panels are usually composed of graduate students, faculty, staff, and Tucson community members. The judges will then move on to the mall with their panel to the Showcase tents to begin judging projects. Each panel will score around eight projects, depending on the category they are judging. In addition to breakfast, lunch will be provided for all judges.
Your support for Student Showcase and the students of the University of Arizona is much appreciated.
Arrangements will be made for FREE parking for the off-campus judges.
The four judging categories are as follows (categories this year are based on the project topic, not the academic discipline):
Community & Society
* Pertains to all research that involves participatory research or community engagements.
* Research and studies that involve direct relations to community and/or business partnerships
* Examples would be projects from sociology, psychology, planning, public health, etc.
Creative Expression
* Projects and research that has an emphasis on creative thinking and expression (including qualitative research that emphasizes creative thinking and expression as well).
* Examples would be projects from Fine Arts, Literature, Architecture, Computer Sciences, etc.
Education
* Pertains to all research and studies that focus and deal with issues in education.
Research
* Pertains to all other research topics that do not fall into the previous categories.
If you are interested in becoming a Student Showcase judge, please contact Patrice Moritz at 626-6122 or gpscevents at email.arizona.edu<mailto:gpscevents at email.arizona.edu> at your earliest convenience and no later than Friday, January 24th. Please respond using the link below with the top two categories you would feel most comfortable serving as a judge as well as your current job title.

UA Choir
Do you like to sing? UA graduate students interested in choral singing are welcome and invited to join the UA Faculty-Staff Choir! This mixed voice choir, under the direction of Christian Giddings (a UA grad student in Vocal Conducting), is non-auditioned and accepts all singers who wish to participate. We sing a wide range of choral works, including classical, folk, spiritual, novelty, Broadway, and seasonal music. We perform several times each year on campus and around the Tucson area.
We rehearse on Mondays and Thursdays, 12:10-12:50 pm, in the Music Building, Room 106. Come join us anytime. First meeting for Spring 2018 will be January 11, and then again on January 18.
Take a singing break twice a week with the Faculty-Staff Choir and enjoy fellowship with UA employees and grad students through choral music!
To learn more, visit our website<http://facultystaffchoir.arizona.edu/home> or email UAfscpresident at gmail.com<mailto:UAfscpresident at gmail.com>.
Yes, grad school is a busy time, but remember: if you're too busy to sing, you're too busy.
Health on Fleek Study
Are you an adolescent or young adult cancer survivor? The Health on FLEEK (Food, Lifestyle, Exercise, and Expanding Knowledge) study is working on a program to help teen and young adult cancer survivors navigate how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. As part of program development, we are conducting interviews to learn more about current health behaviors of AYA survivors (e.g. physical activity, nutrition, sleep). This project is a great opportunity for AYA survivors to give back and help others by sharing their experiences and reflecting on what information and tools they wish they had after finishing treatment. If you are an AYA cancer survivor under 25, at least one year off therapy, you may be eligible for this study!
If interested, please contact Bonita Sur at sur at email.arizona.edu<mailto:sur at email.arizona.edu> or (520)314-6768.

Child Cognition Lab
Are you a parent? Would you like to learn more about psychology by bringing your child to the psychology department for a study? The Child Cognition Lab has studies appropriate for children. We see children as young as 4 months of age up through 5 years!
